As specialist in clinical development and therapeutic drug monitoring, Thierry Buclin was appointed professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University Hospital (CHUV) on August 1, 2011.
Born in 1958, Thierry Buclin performed his medical studies in Lausanne. He acquired an internist training, with incursions in neurology and psychiatry. In 1991, he worked in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University Hospital and obtained a double FMH, internal medicine and clinical pharmacology, the following year.
Appointed associate physician in 1999, assistant physician in 2004 and Acting Chief Medical Officer in 2009, Thierry Buclin describes himself as “almost 100% a product of CHUV.” He oversees the clinical services provided by the Division: specialist consultation, pharmacovigilance tératovigilance and TDM (therapeutic drug monitoring or therapeutic monitoring of drug levels). In 2008, he spent a sabbatical at the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford University, where he conducted research in clinical epidemiology therapeutic monitoring.
A lecturer and researcher at UNIL since 1998 and privat-docent since 2004, Prof. Thierry Buclin invests in teaching elements necessary for effective, rational, appropriate, safe, and economical drugs measured. He participated in the training of medical students and provides specialized courses in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic modeling of drugs. He also lectures to postgraduates and for the continuing education of various health care professionals. Sensitive to the societal benefits of pharmacotherapy, he is regularly called as an expert by the media or by the courts.
