Professor Giovanna Riccardi is a Full Professor at the Department of Biology & Biotechnology “Lazzaro Spallanzani” at the University of Pavia in Italy.
From 1977 to 1984 she obtained Fellowships aimed to work in the microbiology field, at the Institute of Microbiology and Plant Physiology, with a EMBO Short-Term fellowship to visit the University of Liverpool in 1979. In 1984, she became a Researcher at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology, University of Pavia. In 1999 she was appointed Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Experimental, Environmental and Applied Biology at the University of Genoa. From October 2002 she has been a Full Professor of Microbiology, at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology, University of Pavia.
Prof. Giovanna Riccardi has expertise in the field of mycobacteria with important contributions to understanding innate and acquired drug resistance in mycobacteria.
Moreover, she has achieved an important experience within the drug-target discovery field and has been a member of the Steering Committee of the FP6 EC project New Medicines for Tuberculosis (NM4TB) and a member of the Executive Board of the FP7 EC project More Medicines for Tuberculosis (MM4TB).
She is author of 79 peer-reviewed articles, two International Patent Applications (PCT/EP2008/001088; PCT/EP2008/009231) and several national and international communications.
Recently she also started studying drug resistance in CF pathogens and produced 7 peer–reviewed articles on this topic.
In January 2010 she was elected President of the SIMGBM (Italian Society of General Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnologies).
In August 2011 she became a member of the European Academy of Microbiology.
